Green Rooms partners with OSI

Green Rooms is a downtown Oakville store that offers a unique collection of eco-chic home furnishings.  Green Rooms provides beautiful, healthy alternatives that are created from sustainable, recycled, and salvaged materials by young designers who believe that we shouldn't have to sacrifice style when making wiser, greener consumer choices. Every product Green Rooms features is gentle on the environment.

To help customers understand why a product is called green and to assist in making informed choices, Green Rooms uses a rating system based on the following questions:

  • Are the materials used sustainable, reclaimed, organic, recyclable?

  • How much fossil fuel was burned bringing this product to our store?

  • Is this a fair trade product, made under good working conditions?

  • Has the manufacturer avoided using hazardous chemicals that damage not only the earth but also our health?

We are a new company, aiming to build sustainability principles into our business practices from the beginning.  We purchase green energy credits from Oakville Hydro, we use recycled paper and natural cleaning products, and we diligently reuse and recycle as much packaging and cardboard as we can.  Inside our store, we installed a living wall and we used low-VOC paint. Our fixtures are made from sustainable and salvaged materials.

Green Rooms is dedicated to supporting local designers and manufacturers.  To encourage new Canadian designers to think green, we have established a bursary at Sheridan College for furniture and design students who are incorporating green design principles into their work.

We want to continue finding new ways to make our company sustainable, always keeping in mind the triple bottom line:  people, planet, and profit.  We look forward to partnering with the Oakville Sustainability Initiative and learning alongside fellow companies and organizations that are committed to these principles of sustainability.
