We are long from perfect, but we are making changes to benefit the environment.

John Willmott Architect, Inc. is making a commitment to greener designs, healthy work and living spaces, expanding our understanding of environmental issues, creating awareness on climate change and making financial contributions for a sustainable future.

Our commitment to the environment begins with awareness.  Our staff is being educated on various aspects of sustainable design through courses, media, readings, supplier presentations and learning from our clients.  Beginning with John Willmott, we intend to obtain LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.  LEED® is a rating system for buildings that evaluates their impact on the environment.  Understanding the issues is our first goal.  Spreading the news to those we can most directly affect – our clients – is the next undertaking.

The benefits of designing with a green sensibility are quantifiable.  Your house or work environment will be healthier, will cost less to maintain, and will be better for the local, regional, and global environment. You can expect us to explore the effects of air quality, energy efficiency, and the use of sustainable building products, and to partner with other professionals, contractors, and trades that share our vision.  Not every project will achieve a neutral impact on our environment but we will help you make decisions that make sense for your project.

Also, we will endeavour to become eco-friendly in our office operations.  We’ll look at our habits and find ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle.  We are exploring different energy systems and will make financial commitments for carbon emission offsets. We will look to have a library of information on hand or links through our website.  And, we will sponsor green friendly initiatives and events.

Our commitment to the environment has been initiated.  Our commitment to our clients is to exceed their expectations in considering environmental design for their projects.  Along with our goal to provide quality design, complete documentation, and personal service, we seek to raise the bar for architectural practice in our community.
