Early Adopters Program
Early adopters are local businesses, schools, community organizations, concerned citizens, and local municipal and regional governments who come together with a commitment to provide leadership by introducing and incorporating sustainability into their respective organizations and by working together towards community sustainability. The Oakville Sustainability Initiative will provide a training program for early adopters that focuses on building community capacity by developing a common understanding and shared language for sustainability among a variety of community stakeholders, creating local success stories, and then having this core group of leaders disseminate the lessons, knowledge, and energy they have gained throughout the community.
The Oakville Sustainability Initiative allows learning and sharing of best practices in business, government, and education. We will work with our partners in the following areas:
- Research - cutting edge and driving new thinking on sustainability
- Advocacy - creating an enabling environment for sustainable organization
- Advice and Education - transforming companies and sectors to sustainable development
Training
Early adopters will participate in workshops and complete assignments to accomplish the following goals:
- Learn what sustainability is and why it is needed
- Evaluate their own organization’s sustainability performance
- Develop a sustainability vision for their organization
- Create an action plan that will move them toward that vision
- Work together to share their knowledge with the rest of the community
