Ms. Kelly Baxter, Executive Director of The Natural Step
Canada, introduced business, government, education, and community leaders
to the benefits of sustainability initiatives using The Natural Step framework.
Her presentation defined sustainability, presented basic principles of The
Natural Step framework, including the science behind the framework model, and
outlined Canadian and international case studies of how organizations and local
municipalities have benefited from their sustainability efforts.
Ms. Baxter was part of the original steering committee that brought The Natural Step to Canada in 1996, was a founding Board Member, and served as Chair of the Board from 2002-2004. She is Vice-Chair of The Natural Step International and has been working on sustainability and environmental issues for 17 years. Before working with The Natural Step, Kelly served as Director of Communications for Canada’s National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy (NRTEE).
The Natural Step International was founded by Dr. Karl-Henrick Robert, one of the world’s foremost sustainability experts, world famous oncologist, and Winner of The Laureate Medal for Social Responsibility by The Global Center for Leadership & Business Ethics.
“Organizations used to think of environmental and social responsibilities as a burden slowing them down. Now sustainability strategies have emerged as catalysts to success. The Natural Step framework is used by organizations around the word as the best guide on their sustainability journeys.”
