What is OSI? 

The Oakville Sustainability Initiative was inspired by innovative research initiatives and visionary leaders around the world. In 2006, and with the support of The Natural Step, an organization founded in 1989 in Sweden by Dr. Karl-Henrik Robèrt, we have laid the groundwork for Oakville's first sustainability initiative.

We believe that truly integrated sustainability models must exist within our local municipalities in which our economy, environment, society and governance are integrated in ways that foster vibrant communities, strong economies, and healthy ecosystems. Our goal is to ensure that our local and regional municipalities, businesses and education systems integrate measurable sustainability targets in their strategic plans and in doing so become role models and increase their competitive advantages. Our greatest hope is in these role models.
