Supporting OSI
The Oakville Sustainability Initiative has been working to bring longterm sustainability planning into our community and region since 2006 and there is still so much to be done. Our work is made possible through our volunteers, early adopters in business, education and local and regional government, and generous individuals. There are many ways to support the Oakville Sustainability Initiative. We encourage you to do so in whatever way you can, whether through money, time, opportunities or encouragement.
Why Should You Support Us?
The Oakville Sustainability Initiative relies heavily on the support of individuals and foundations to continually advance our mission of regional sustainability. Foundations often think that because we work with companies, they should finance our work. Yet, because we are a non-profit, companies often think that foundations should fund our work. The truth is we need both and more. Very few foundations today fund sustainability work and it is critical that we keep our work independent, unbiased and open source.
How Can You Take Action?
There are a number of ways to consider for supporting the important work of the Oakville Sustainability Initiative.
Become a Friend of OSI
Help us spread the word about municipal and regional sustainability and sustainable business. Friends of OSI - donors contributing more than $50/year - receive a regular newsletter and invitations to interesting events. Friends also receive a discount on registration fees for workshops and seminars. Please contact us if you are interested in becomine a Friend of OSI.
Become a member of the Sustainable Society
Having to constantly seek funds to cover next month’s bills diverts staff energy and focus away from long term projects that will make a real difference towards sustainability. Become a member of the Sustainable Society and pledge an amount which will help sustain the organization over a period of years. Plan a gift
Including the Oakville Sustainability Initiative in your planned giving is a valuable way to ensure the long-term sustainability of our work. Planned gifts could include gifts through your will or charitable gifts. If you are interested, please contact us.
Make a Memorial or Tribute Gifts
Our
supporters can make a contribution to the Oakville Sustainability Initiative in
memory of a
loved one or to honour someone special. When a memorial or tribute
donation is made, the Oakville Sustainability Initiative will send a handwritten
note to the
individual being honoured, or to the person who should be notified of
